You have stories worth telling

Lightning Bug is your support to get it finished.

What is Lightning Bug

Every Story Deserves to Be Finished

You have stories worth telling. The ones that have been sitting in the back of your mind for years. The half-written drafts collecting dust in a folder. The memories, experiences, and ideas that feel important but never quite make it onto the page. Lightning Bug is where that changes.

We work with writers at every stage. From the first flicker of an idea to a finished piece you’re proud of. Whether you’re stuck at the start, lost in the middle, or just need someone to help you see what your story is actually about, this is where you get it done.

What We Do Here

Writing is thinking. It’s how we make sense of what happened, what matters, and who we are. But it’s also one of the hardest things to do alone and most people give up not because they lack talent, but because they lack support.  Lightning Bug exists to close that gap. Through guided prompts, one-on-one coaching, and a structured approach to the creative process, we help writers move from stuck to finished.

Find a Story Idea

Most people are sitting on more material than they realise. Lived experiences, half-formed observations, memories that keep resurfacing for a reason. The work is learning to recognise what's already there.

Develop a Story Idea

Turning a spark into something with shape, direction, and meaning takes a different kind of thinking than most people have been taught. This is where we work out what your idea is really about, what it needs, and how to build it into something worth finishing.

Finish a Story

The hardest part of writing is crossing the finish line. If you have something half-written and gathering dust, this is where it gets completed. With structure, accountability, and a clear plan from where you are to where you need to be.

Write for Lightning Bug

LightningBug publishes writing that captures something real. The kind of piece that stays with a reader long after they’ve finished it. We are not looking for polished credentials or publishing history. We are looking for writing that is honest, specific, and alive. The kind of piece that only you could have written because it comes from something you actually lived, observed, or wrestled with. Personal essays, reflective narratives, stories about ordinary moments that turned out to matter. If it is genuine and carefully written, it belongs here.
